One of the easiest ways for me to get back into the blogging routine is to join a great linky party.  So I'm linking up with 2 today.

First up is a new one from the Teaching Trio.
I love getting to know bloggers on a personal and professional level and this linky is a fun way to do that.
Have to do:
My daughter turns 6 in 2 weeks (boy time flies) and I need to order her cake this week.  Laundry is boring but a necessity.  Prepping lunches for my daughter and I is something that I'm really trying to stick to this year.  For one, I don't want to always be rushing in the morning.  Also, I want to make sure that we don't get into a rut eating the same thing everyday!

Hope to do:
My church is starting a class on the Bible in 90 days.  Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to make the class, but I downloaded the reading plan and am excited to begin this journey.  I know that it's going to be intense, but I'm looking forward to hearing what God has to say to me in these 90 days.  Has anyone done this challenge?
I also want to get ahead in lesson planning.  So far I have ELA, and Social Studies planned for the next few weeks.  I need to get math, ELD, and writing done.

Happy to do:
I woke up this morning and reminded my daughter that today is Grandparents' Day and she was so excited to do something for them.  She has given them lots of extra hugs and kisses and "let them" watch a movie with her.  We're headed out to dinner as soon as she comes home from the park with my dad....such a blessing!

Next up is Mrs. Laffin's Laughings Peek at my Week

This week will be my first full week since adding 4 new students last week and 3 more just for math.  We had to make a combo class so I got some extra 3rd graders (I still only have 22 kids so I'm not complaining).  They've transitioned well, but we spent time last week getting to know each other and reviewing routines.  This week we'll be hitting the ground running.

Math:
We're still learning multiplication.  This week will be spent introducing the commutative and distributive properties.  My kiddos have a good understanding of the meaning of multiplication so I'm hoping these lessons are easily accessible for them.

ELA:
We're introducing informational writing as a response to the 2 texts we've been reading.  My kiddos wrote a short paragraph last week so I could see where they're at in their writing life.  I'm excited to begin actual instruction in writing.  We'll also continue to practice close reading.  The curriculum that we're using (EngageNY) is somewhat repetitive in close reading, but the kiddos are grasping the steps and purpose so I'm hoping to start releasing the process soon.

Social Studies:
We're currently studying geography and this week we'll be looking at the 4 regions of California.  My kiddos love working on their lapbook and thanks to our Nancy Fetzer lecture notes, have a great overview of the topic.

Word Study:
This will be our first week with differentiated word study.  We spent the last 2 weeks using a simple list just to introduce word sorts.  This will be my first year following Words Their Way and so far I'm loving it.  I have 3 groups which I'm hoping isn't too hard to manage.

Reader's Workshop:
Like I said above, my district is using EngageNY for ELA, but we were previous all about balanced literacy.  I went to a fabulous training this summer about balanced literacy and I am all about Reader's Workshop.  This week, we're looking at different types of fiction and nonfiction as well as reasons readers abandon books.

I still have to plan ELD so I can't share what we're doing there, but I'm looking forward to a great week!  Off to dinner to celebrate my fabulous parents for being such great grandparents!  Have a great week!

It's week three for me with the kiddos.  Last Wednesday, we were told that the district said our numbers were too low so there would need to be combo classes.  This had all of us stressed.  On Friday we found out that it's going to be a 3/4 combo.  I won't be teaching it, but I will be getting 4 more students.  Can't complain since that will only bring me up to 22, but I'll be spending some time this week reteaching rules and procedures in depth.
Math:
I plan to take this week to introduce math games.  I really want to use the Guided Math approach after reading Laney Sammons' book this summer, but I've been struggling with doing that while using the EngageNY curriculum.  With the addition of my 4 new friends, I thought this would be a great time to introduce some multiplication games so I can better implement Guided Math in the future.
Language Arts:
We're also using the EngageNY language arts curriculum.  This week we'll be reviewing close reading and answering text-dependent questions.
Reader's Workshop:
I spend an hour in the morning using the EngageNY curriculum, but I also want my kids to be reading just right books that interest them, so I also do reader's workshop in the afternoon.  This week we're focusing on genre.
Writing:
We're beginning the year with informational writing, so I'm tying it into our social studies curriculum.  I will be using Nancy Fetzer to help my kiddos become better writers.  I love that there are hand motions to help with the structure of writing as well as a variety of ways to front load information if needed (which my kiddos do).
Social Studies:
We're going to be looking at the physical features of California's geography.  We'll be making a lapbook for this unit and I can't wait to share it when we're done!

This is the earliest I've ever started school and can't believe that September is here!  That means it's time for Currently!

Lifetime movies always get me over the weekend.  There's usually a theme and all the movies are either good or really bad that you have to watch!  Loving that my baby is a kindergartner and is so happy.  Here she is on the first day of school last week:
I love living in southern California, but I'm over sweating all the time...it ain't pretty! I'm looking forward to crisp, cool (not cold!) fall weather!  Finally, for my 3 trips, I'd love to go to Paris...such a romantic city, the Bahamas...everyone says it's so beautiful and so much fun, and any cruise!  Maybe one day I'll take a cruise to the Bahamas and get these 2 bucket list items checked off!

Finally, I was blessed to be contacted by The Mailbox to host a giveaway a while ago.  Here are the winners:

I'm happy to be linking up with Jennifer for this week's Peek at my Week linky.

This week we are going on a short vacation to Legoland!
We're only staying for 2 nights and spending 2 days at the park, but my daughter and I are very excited!  We've never been and are hoping to have a blast.

Our Disneyland passes will also be blocked out for the rest of summer soon, so I plan to spend a few hours at the happiest place on earth!

Those are some pictures from our previous trips.  We love going for the fireworks and to visit with the princesses!

Please be sure to stop by tomorrow as I'll be posting about a new guided reading book study and don't forget about Thursday's guided math book study. Have a great week!

I'm almost done with report cards, but instead of finishing them, I'm going to share what I'm teaching this week!

We're going to continue working on inferring.  Last week we did the "What's in my purse and what does it mean?" activity.  This week we'll be using some task cards that I picked up during the TPT sale.
Inference Task Cards, Pictures and Text, Common Core Diffe

Inference Task Cards: 24 Short Story Cards for Grades 1-2.

We're beginning 2D and 3D shapes this week.  I'm excited for this unit because there are a lot of fun activities to do involving food and my kiddos love when we do things out of the box. I'll be using toothpicks and marshmallows to make 2D shapes and pretzels and gumdrops to make 3D shapes!

Here are some of my favorite pins for geometry:
Pretzels and Gumdrops 3D Geometry Shapes Snack Fun! We had so much fun with this today! I found this idea on Pinterest, but I'm not sure who to credit it to. Let me know if it's you!

Bulletin Board Ideas - Geomotry using toothpicks and mini marshmallows. love it!

We'll also be adding to our math notebook using these pages from Jaime's Interactive Notebook pack:
With St. Patrick's Day quickly approaching, we'll be writing a how to piece about catching a leprechaun.  I teased this idea on Friday and my kiddos were so excited.  I can't wait to see what steps they think they'll need to catch a leprechaun!

Work stations is quickly becoming the highlight of my day!  This week in math we'll be reviewing measurement, place value, line plots, and money.  For our literacy work stations we'll be doing my March sentence scramble, a text features game from Courtney's Smart about Text Features pack, Brenda's I Spy Word Work, spelling spinner to practice this week's spelling words, partner reading, writing journals, and Teaching with a Mountain View's Fact and Opinion Task Cards.  I'll be blogging more about how I set up and manage my work stations this week.

Only 3 weeks til Spring Break then 9 weeks after that til summer...so much to do in such a short amount of time!

I love 4-day weeks!  An extra day at home with my daughter is always fun!  Here's what the kiddos and I will be up to this week:

Math:
We're beginning our measurement unit.  I plan to do a lot of hands on measuring activities, as well as using pages from Bright Concepts 4 Teacher's Interactive Math Notebook.

Language Arts:
We're reviewing story structure because my kiddos are struggling with being able to tell what happens at the beginning, middle, and end when they're retelling.

Social Studies:
We'll be hitting President's Day hard this week!  I'll be using this President's Day lapbook from Jamie Sears:
President's Day Lapbook

Jamie also has a free PowerPoint that gives all of the information you need to complete the lapbook.  You can check that out at her TpT store {HERE}.

I also plan to show my kids parts of this Scholastic video:

Word Study:
We're continuing to work on contractions and will  be using these great activities from Literary Spark:
Valentine Contractions ~ 4 Activities

Work Stations:
We finished our money unit last week so we'll be reviewing it in math work stations.  I'm working on some activities that I'm hoping to finish and post today that the kiddos will be able to use.

For literacy work stations, we're going to focus on summarizing using beginning, middle, and end.

Guided Reading:
I will be starting my guided reading groups this week as well.  I've read Jan Richardson's book and am excited to start this with my kiddos.

I spent the last 2 weeks doing the DRA2 on my kiddos to get their levels since they hadn't been tested since the beginning of the year (I took over this class in January).  I have some work to do with a few groups, but it's great seeing what strategies they employ and figuring out what they need to become better readers!

I've been pinning like crazy to my Guided Reading board which you can check out {HERE}.  If you have a guided reading board leave the link so I can check it out!

Hope you have a great week!

I'm back to link up with Jennifer for Peek at My Week.  This linky party is really keeping me organized and planning in advanced!

Here's what I'll be up to this week:
Math:  We wrapped up 2-digit addition last week, but will be continuously reviewing it in work stations.  We're moving on to money and will be using these Valentine's Money Messages from Lucky Little Learners.

Valentine Money Messages

Language Arts: We're exploring author's purpose and I can't wait to make a cute anchor chart like I've seen all over Pinterest.  Here are a few of my favorites:

Love Monster Glyph {Art and More!}

Here's to a great week!
We have a half day on Monday for professional development so I'm not sure how much we'll get done this week.  Whenever we have half days I feel like I over plan for the week so some of this may get pushed back to next week.  No matter, I'm linking up with Jennifer again for

Language Arts: We're diving into informational text this week.  I'll be using a few passages from this winter pack by the 24/7 Teacher

Writing: We're putting the finishing touches on our One Word Writing Project so I'm hoping to share those soon.

Work Stations: My kiddos loooove work stations!  They are almost in full swing and we'll keep it up this week.  Here's what's been introduced so far:
  • Language Arts: shared writing journals, independent reading, partner reading, games
  • Math: math journals, SuperSpeed math, task cards
Hope everyone has a great week!

Now that I've finalized my schedule (for now), I feel ready to go for the week.  Here's what the kiddos and I will be up to this week:

2nd Grade Language Interactive Notebook (Common Core aligned)Plural Noun Party! {Common Core Aligned}Language Arts: We're continuing our study of nouns.  This week we're exploring plural nouns.  I love this Plural Noun Party pack from Aimee Salazar.  We'll be adding the student booklet to our interactive notebook and doing the regular plural sorts early in the week.  Toward the end of the week we'll begin looking at irregular plurals.  For that we'll be using a foldable from Nicole Shelby's Language Interactive Notebook.

Math: We're finishing up place value and I'll assess the kids on that.  I'll also be starting 2-digit addition.  Here are some of the products that I'll be using this week:

Race to 50 or 100 {A Place Value Game}

Double Digit Addition Activities

Social Studies: We're beginning our government unit and will spend this week doing some vocabulary activities.

Writing: I love the idea of one word to guide you through the year.  I blogged about my one word {HERE} and when I saw this idea from Jennifer and Jamie's blogs I knew I had to do it with my class.  Last week my kids wrote their rough drafts and this week we're working on revising and editing.  I can't wait to see how they turn out!

Work Stations: I'm so excited to introduce these this week!  My kiddos are good at independent reading and partner reading.  I introduced a few of the activities last week, but will keep adding to it until it's fully up and running!

I love reading what everyone's teaching.  Make sure you stop by Mrs. Laffin's Laughings to see what everyone's up to!
