The Best Year Yet and 1 for Me!

Happy New Year!   My daughter stayed up to ring in the new year with me so we toasted with some apple cider and had a tea party!

This will be my first post of 2014 and I love how I will be starting the blogging year off.  I'm so excited to be linking up with Ashley from Just Reed for her Best Year Yet linky party!

This week's theme is Spiritual Goals.  Here are the areas I need and want to grow in spiritually:

1. Strengthen my prayer life: I really like Ashley's idea of keeping a prayer journal.  One of my Sunday school teachers has been telling us to do this for years and I'm going to start.  I want to be able to look back on my journey and see growth from where I am now and where God is guiding me.

2. Read the Bible daily and commit more to memory: I've been good the last few years at reading the Word, but I need to go deeper, and make it more meaningful by hiding it in my heart and committing it to memory.  This goes along with strengthening my prayer life because as I read, I need to meditate on the message He has for me and use it as I journey to grow closer to Him.

3. Read or listen to the Bible on a daily basis with my daughter: I'm blessed that I go to a great church that has a great children's ministry.  My daughter also attends a great Christian preschool.  She is like a sponge when it comes to the Bible and wants to watch and learn more and more (she will stay up late to watch TBN with my dad, especially if it's about Moses or Esther)!  I need to do a better job of sharing my faith with her and helping her to cultivate her own.

I'm also linking up with Tara at 4th Grade Frolics for her 1 for Me linky party!

Reflecting on 2013 and looking forward to 2014, I think my 1 for me has to be "make me a priority".  As a single mom, I feel selfish for making me a priority; but I realize that it's a necessity to be the best mom I can be.  I've also realized that making me a priority can be as simple as getting my nails done or reading a good book.  There are also times when it will mean taking my daughter to Disneyland.  When I make me a priority I free myself up to be available to everyone I love!

I can't wait to make 2014 the best year yet!
