Student of the week

Over the summer I blogged about using Student of the Week posters.  You can read about it {HERE}.  Now that things are in full swing I wanted to come back and update how it's going.

Here is the poster I'm using.  I made it to go with my sports theme.  You can pick it up from TpT store {HERE}. I also have regular student of the week posters available in my store.

I decided to hand out the posters to all of my students at the beginning of the year.  This way they're ready to go whenever that student gets called.  To choose a student I use my number sticks.  On a piece of paper I write everyone's number and cross them out when they are student of the week.  That way I can make sure everyone gets their turn.....kids seem to forget whether or not they've been honored :)

I pick my student at the end of the day on Friday.  Once they are picked, they come to the front of the room and share their poster.  Then, I put their poster on my All-Star of the Week bulletin board

When the kids go home, I put the student of the week chair cover on their chair.  This stays on their chair for the entire week. 

On Monday morning as part of morning work, I hand out the All-Star writing paper.

The students write a letter to the All-Star of the Week.  After I've collected and bound them, I put the book up on the bulletin board. 

When the next student is chosen, I give the previous All-Star his/her book and poster.  Then we start the whole process over.

I have to say that this is working out well for me.  The kids are excited and it's been fun learning about them and seeing them share on a personal level with each other.  Management wise, it's going well too.............the kids know the routine and keep me going with it!
